All information about the nose piercing

The nose piercing is a very popular and common piercing with a rich background history. There are several piercing types which are meant to be worn as a nose piercing. That’s why Piercing Mania wrote this blog to give you an overview of each nose piercing type.

About the nose piercing

The nose piercing is a piercing almost exclusively worn by women, except for the septum piercing which is worn by both. The nose piercing as it is commonly known originates from India. Getting the left nostril pierced would increase the fertility of women. Which is why most women get their nose pierced on, or just before, their wedding day.
Getting your nose pierced in western civilization is done for apparel which is why you can spot them in both the left and the right nostril.

You can wear four specific nose piercing types. Each type has its own characteristics.

Nose rings

The nose ring is a neat and striking nose piercing type. Because it goes fully round rather than just a small knob it is much more visible. You should keep the exact location of your nose piercing in mind. Depending on the distance from the piercing gap to the nose you might need a bigger or smaller ring.

The nose ring is mostly an open ring that creates the illusion of a closed ring. Nose rings have a small disk on one opening which rests against the inner side of the nostril. That means the opening is on the inside of the nose as well creating the look a fully closed ring.

There are also nose rings that have some extra decoration on their disk. These rings are supposed to be worn with the disk on the outside of the nostril. These are meant to be partially open or they can gently be pressed to close the ring.

The nose bone piercing

The nose bone piercing is very similar to the nose stud, they both consist of a straight bar with a small top. The difference is that the nose bone piercing has a thickening at the bottom of the bar. This bump prevents the nose piercing from falling out by accident.

Because of its design a nose bone piercing is very easy to place and remove. With a little push you can put the piercing in place and vice versa. This might prove very convenient if you like to change nose piercings on a regular basis.

The nose stud piercing

A nose stud piercing has, unlike the bone, a fully straight and smooth bar. It is also a little bit longer than a nose bone. That extra length can be used to bend the bar into an L shape.

Through bending the bottom you make sure that the nose stud keeps itself in place through pressure against the nostril. How firm the piercing is kept in place is up to you depending on how you bend it. You place and remove the bar while bend which requires just a little bit of practice.

The nose screw piercing

The nose screw piercing is the most firm of all the nose piercings. Once in place it is hard to get it to move. That’s due to its special ‘screw’ in its bar that presses firmly against the  inner sie of the nostril.

Placing and removing does require some experience and/or practice due to its shape. The screw is therefore especially convenient if you want to wear the same nose piercing for longer periods of time.
