The earlobe seems to be predestined to be pierced. In nearly all cultures and throughout history you see earrings (and ear piercings). In the most various ways this piece of skin is pierced and most of the time without a problem. The earlobe has only a few nerves and blood vessels and can nearly deal with all materials. You just don’t have to think that having an earring is more or less the same as having any other type of (ear)piercing. Therefore a blog to point out the difference between an earring and an (ear)piercing.
An earring isn’t a piercing
You could claim, that an earring isn’t a piercing in any way. The earlobe contains, as one of the very few places in the body, nearly no nerves, only very few blood vessels and the rest is only tissue. Exactly those three things are the reason that a ‘real’ piercing needs a lot more attention.
Because of the blood vessels, nerves and cartilage that is often found in other places, the body reacts more strongly. The body therefore needs a lot more time to heal and is more sensitive to infections.
Therefore you can’t just keep on changing your jewellery every day. These spots are a lot more sensitive. Too much back and forth with different materials, sizes and weight change can irritate your body easily.
In conclusion, if you never have had a piercing and you think, that a piercing is going to be more or less the same as your earring, chances are that you are going to be quite disappointed.
