What is the best engagement ring style for your hand? As jewellery experts, we recommend you choose a ringaccording to your hand shape and skin tone. Find the bestring foryou below.
FIRST, A LOOK AT HAND SHAPES
1. Dainty hands
If you have petite hands, it’s best to keep your ring delicate and simple, for example aclassic solitaire ring. A dainty ring doesn’t mean you have to forgo sparkle. Simply choose a round or princess cut (square) diamond – they are the most radiant diamond shapes. For even more glamour, you can also add sidestone diamonds along the ring’s band. Sidestones increase dazzle without looking overpowering.

2. Long fingers
If you have long fingers, you can carry off a striking ring design. Wide bands will look good on you. If you want makeyour hand appear shorter, pick a designthat sits across your finger horizontally – such as an ‘east-west’ gemstone mount (see the blue sapphire ring below) or a three-stone ring (see bottom left ring below).

3. Wide hands
Pick a ring that covers as much of the width of yourfinger as possible. Wide handsallow you tomake a big statement. So consider large round, square or unusual shapes. Wide bandswill suit you too, as will‘cluster rings’ that are made with multiplediamonds or gems grouped together.

4. Short fingers
Choose a long gem shape toelongate your fingers. Emerald cut, marquis cut, oval, and pear shaped stones in a ‘north-south’ setting along the finger will achieve this for you. Avoid big rings that overwhelm your hand. These diamond shapes are not quite as sparkly as square and round cut stones. So if you wantmoresparkle, considera halo of smallerround diamonds around the main stone.

SECOND, A LOOK ATSKIN TONE
1. Warmskin tones
If the veins on the inside of your wrist look greenish, rather than blue, your skin tone is warm. Yellow clothing probably tends to suit you. Yellow gold and rose gold complement a warm complexion. ‘Fiery coloured’ gemstones, such as red rubies, yellow diamonds or yellow sapphires will also look good against your skin. Additionally, yellow and rose goldhave the benefit of contrasting with white diamonds, making them stand out more.

2. Cool skin tones
If the veins on your inner wrist look blue, rather than green, then your skin tone is cool. Cool complexions suit white gold and platinum. Diamonds, as well as blue, violet and pink gemstones like sapphires, topaz, tanzanite and aquamarine will also flatter your skin tone.
