Girard-Perregaux’s origins date back to 1791 in Switzerland, when watchmaker Jean-Francois Bautte began producing timepieces. In 1952, watchmaker Constant Girard founded a watch company. After marrying Marie Perregaux in 1856, the Girard-Perregaux watch manufacturing company was formed. Girard-Perregaux was taken over by Girard’s son, Constantin Girard-Gallet, who merged the Bautte house with the Girard-Perregaux company, creating the brand we know today.
Some of the brand’s most famous models include the 1945, the Hawk, the 1966, and the recently-reintroduced Laureato. In 2011, the company was purchased by the Sowind Group, a subsidiary of luxury goods conglomerate Kering.
