Nose piercings come in many shapes and sizes. Being informed before getting a piecing is crucial. However, if you already have a piecing then it is always useful to get some further information. Therefore this blog where we will discuss the ‘nose piercing’.
Like most other piercings, the nose piercing is an age-old concept. Evidence of the nostril piercing is seen throughout history far beyond the beginning of time, there is even evidence of the nose piercing in the bible. Cultural influences from India are largely responsible for the popularity of the nose piercing in Western society.
During the 1980’s the nose piercing was seen as ‘rebellious’ however nowadays it is just as accepted as an earring or other piercing.
How and what types of nostril piercing are there? They can be divided into four categories:
– The (L-bend) stud
– The bone
– The screw
– The open ring
The stud and L bend nose piercing.
The stud and L bend piercing is perhaps the most famous nose piercing. It has a ‘straight’ bar followed by decoration on the head of the piercing. If a nose piercing is fully straight, it is called a stud.
All the studs that Piercing Mania offer are L bend piercing. A ‘real’ stud piercing would effectively just fall out at the slightest chance. By bending the bar of the piercing can settle against the side of the nostril. This is called the L bend because of the way the piercing is bent.
The Nose Bone
The nose bone or the bone resembles a stud but has one crucial difference. There is a slight bugle at the bottom of the piercing. This bugle is pressed through the pierced hole, the advantage of the bone-piercing is that it is easy to insert and remove and less likely to fall out. You have to pull and push to place and remove this nose piercing.
The Nose Screw
The Screw or nose screw piercing is characterised by its curved back. This curve in the piercing means that inserting and removing the piercing isn’t always easy, however once in place it remains in position. The position of the piercing makes the curve fit perfectly tight against the inside of the nostril, and hence can be worn very comfortably.
Open Nose Ring
The ring is the next best well-known piercing after the after the straight piercing. Whereas most nose piercings derive their strength from a decorated head at the top of the piercing, the ring piercing derives its strength from the ring itself. Piercing Mania offers open rings with a plateau on one side, which is seen by a small opening making these rings very easy to insert and remove.
To insert this piercing, you insert the opposite side to the plateau side through to the inside of the nostril, which then presses against the inside of the nostril. The opening of the ring is now hidden in the nasal cavity, making it seem as if the ring closed.
There are also open rings with a decoration on the top. These rings are placed with the opening visible and do not give the impression of a closed ring.
