WHY CHOOSE STAINLESS STEEL JEWELRY?

WHAT IS STAINLESS STEEL?

Stainless Steel is a metal compound consisting of iron, carbon, titanium, and chromium. Chromium is, however, the most important ingredient in stainless steel since it’s the element that gives stainless steel its sheen, while also creating a top invisible layer which prevents the corrosion and rusting of stainless steel.
Stainless steel can be used for many different applications such as surgical and medical tools, aerospace applications, and architecture. But it’s also used to make jewelry and because the metal is corrosion and heat-resistant, it can make a great addition to your jewelry box. The jewelry is harder to scratch and can withstand the sun, the sand, and the sea.

LONG LASTING

The first advantage with stainless steel jewelry is the unalterable, indestructible, immutable quality of its alloy. Thanks to its composition, with more than 10.5% chromium, this type of steel is stainless. Indeed, it never rust. These are jewels that last in time.

THE REASONS FOR LONG LASTING

CHROMIUM POWER

Though stainless steel doesn’t rust, in general, there are cases where rusting will happen. As mentioned above, stainless steel (used in jewelry) is an alloy of chromium, nickel, carbon, manganese, and iron, among other metals.
While most of these metals rust, stainless steel is largely protected from rusting by chromium. Chromium protects stainless steel jewelry from rusting by preventing oxidation. For this reason, the best of stainless steel jewelry has at least 10% chromium.

PROTECTIVE FILM

Besides the protective chromium layer, the other reason why stainless steel doesn’t rust or get tarnished easily has to do with the fact that stainless steel develops an oxide layer when it gets exposed to the air. This oxide layer protects the metal for corrosion. This film is a barrier to any intrusion risking oxidation (even if the metal has suffered a shock, the protective barrier is reformed).

LOW MAINTENANCE

You need not ransack your kitchen cabinet or splurge on a special polish to keep your jewelry intact. Just clean your stainless steel jewelry with warm water and dishwasher detergent to ensure they’re in top condition. Then use a soft cloth to polish it back to its original shiny state. After a few years, you may invest in a professional polish as the jewelry may lose its original luster. But luckily, the jewelry expert will restore the original sparkle of your jewelry.

ADAPTABLE TO ANY OCCASION

You can wear stainless steel jewelry just about anywhere. It is shiny and can pass as an expensive metal alloy. You can also wear it every day and blend in with any occasion that you choose. Stainless steel jewelry can be used to dress up or dress down, and you’ll still look amazing.

HYPOALLERGENIC

While sterling silver is generally safe to wear, some people still have allergies to silver, nickel or copper. Some sterling silver jewelry manufacturers will plate their pieces with rhodium to prevent it from tarnishing, but this coating will likely erode over time. Additionally, there are plenty of ‘fakes’ out there – silver pieces that are marked 925, but actually have a higher degree of other metals, like nickel. As with most things, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Additionally, people who take certain medications are constantly having to replace their treasured jewelry because gold and silver will pit and discolor in the presence of certain chemicals. This issue is non-existent with surgical stainless steel.
The nickel that makes up an alloy is the allergenic element. The alloy that makes up surgical stainless steel is extremely strong and limits the release of nickel. The nickel particles are trapped in the alloy so it remains strongly bound to the other components. The fact that nickel is not released makes stainless steel an anti-allergenic metal that does not irritate the skin (as long as the right alloys: 304L, 316L and 316LVM are respected).

LOW REACTIVITY

Unlike the precious metals like silver and gold that stain easily, stainless steel remains unaffected by chemicals due to the film of chromium oxide on it. Salt or chlorine content can tarnish metals like silver but does not affect stainless steel. Thus it is a good choice for swimmers or the aquatic athletes. Even though a small amount of nickel is present in the stainless steel it does not trigger a reaction from the metal-sensitive skins making it a good metal choice for crafting jewelry.

LOW PRICING

Because it is not a precious metal such as gold, silver or bronze, it’s very affordable, making stainless steel pieces quite budget friendly.
Environmentally friendly
The other truth about stainless steel that makes it worth purchasing is that it is the most ecologically friendly metal that gets used in jewelry making. When it comes to production, the energy used and waste produced, it is dramatically less than other metals for jewelry in the market. The other plus side is that stainless steel is 100 percent recyclable.

THAT’S WHY CHOOSE STAINLESS STEEL JEWELRY!

There are many advantages to choosing stainless steel jewelry. Not only is it affordable, but it’s guaranteed to last a lifetime thanks to its scratch-resistant nature.
Also, if you’re prone to doing lots of action sports, you won’t have to worry about your stainless steel ring getting bent out of shape due to its durability.
Left your stainless steel bracelet on the side of the sink? No worries, there’s no chance of it rusting or becoming discolored.
Your favorite stainless steel necklace may lose its shine eventually but all you need is a quick wash to return to its former glory. It’s also great for those with sensitive skin as stainless steel doesn’t trigger any allergic reactions. What’s not to love?!
