Why you should still wax in winter

It’s trackies weather but you should still be waxing! Here’s why! We know that temptation can creep in over winter, let your hair grow out and hide it? Or continue with your waxing routine in the colder months?

Let’s dive into a few of the many benefits of waxing, even in winter:

Syncing up your hair growth cycle

Hairs grow in different cycles and they can all be in different stages of their cycle at any time. If you’re new to waxing or if you don’t have a regular waxing routine – that’s probably the reason you may see short stubble creep up a few days after a waxing appointment. The hair sitting just below your skin’s surface (probably due to shaving) has annoyingly decided to push out of your skin straight after your wax!

How to combat this? It may take up to 4 – 6 regular waxes for your hair growth cycle to be in sync, all growing in the same phase at the same time. A consistent routine will train your hair to grow in complete sync, and eventually each and every hair will be successfully removed during your wax and you will remain hair free for longer periods of time.

Establishing or maintaining your waxing routine in winter gives you a head start for summer. By the time summer rolls around, you will have a kick ass waxing routine in place! Not only will you maintain your great results from having regular waxes, your hair will grow back progressively finer and sparser and you will notice you will have hair free skin for longer periods of time. This is because the wax removes the hair from the root, causing the hair follicle to get damaged and weaken each time. These finer hairs also mean there is no itchiness or prickliness as your hair is regrowing (and no unsightly stubble, spotty skin or razor bumps!).

Waxing is a form of skin exfoliation

Waxing is a form of skincare – especially when coupled with the right pre and post care! During the colder months, your skin can become dry and scaly due to a lack of moisture and harsh weather conditions. Waxing in winter gently exfoliates your skin, and while it will never take the place of regular manual exfoliation, it can help to brighten the surface of your skin and enhance smoothness. Many people find other hair removal methods like epilation, shaving and hair removal cream irritating to the skin, especially during winter. Waxing opens up your pores and removes dead skin cells, which allows your moisturiser or body oil to be easily absorbed by your skin. Remember to exfoliate and moisturise regularly in between your waxing appointments and to keep your skin hydrated and in tip top condition!
