Fake piercings: the standard size

Fake piercings are ideal to see how you would look with a piercing, to wear something for one event or as an alternative if for example your parents don’t allow you to wear a piercing yet. Using a fake piercing for checking if its suits you can be quite useful. A piercing is a big responsibility if you look at its care and a fake piercing is a perfect way to see if it’s worth the trouble.

The standard measure of fake piercings

Fake piercings come in two types. One uses an ear piercing, the other type doesn’t need a  piercing at all. Fake piercings like fake plugs and tapers need an ear piercing to be worn.

Ear piercings usually have a thickness of 0.8 or 1.2 mm. The fake piercings that are put in the ear, have a thickness of 1.2 mm. This way they are stable and fit perfectly in an ear piercing.

Fake piercings without holes

Then there are fake piercings, for which you don’t need a hole, the so-called clip-on piercings. They have a small opening so that they can be pushed/ clipped on almost anywhere. Take for example a helix ring, that you clip around the side of your ear. The opening is exactly small enough to keep the ring in its place.

You are always going to feel a fake clip on piercing a little bit because it is kept in place by pressure. A fake piercing, therefore, is never as comfortable to wear as a real piercing. However not every ear has the same thickness. As for example the clip on helix ring feels too tight, you can try to carefully(!) bend it further. But watch out, because if you bend it too far it loses its pressure and falls out easily.
