Retainers: The standard size

Piercings retainers are super useful to keep a piercing tunnel open when you aren’t wearing a piercing in it. Useful, because it isn’t always practical or suitable to wear your piercing. Depending on the place of your piercing and how long you take it out the piercing cavity  can sometimes grow close again quite quickly. But retainers exist for nearly every type of piercing. Which size do you need then?

The standard size of the retainer

Retainers at Piercing mania consist of 4 subtypes: The nose retainer, the press fit labret retainer, the belly button retainer and the general ‘retainer with o-ring’.

Naturally, the nose piercing retainer has the same standard size as the normal nose piercing and the thickness lies thus between 0.8 and 1 mm. Having a nose piercing of 1.2 mm thickness is also no problem. The round end plate takes care that it still fits well with this size.

The press fit labret retainer is, like many labrets, easy to place because of its press fit system. The standard size of the labret is 1.2 mm and thus also for the retainer. The length of the labret changes between 8 and 10 mm and so does the retainer too. The labret retainer is also available with a thickness of 1.6 mm and longer lengths. That is for the case you want to use this retainer at other places, for example, your tragus.

The belly button retainer has the same standard size as a belly button piercing. That is 1.2 mm thickness with a length of 10 mm.

Last but not least there are the ‘retainers with o-ring’. These are available in a variance of thicknesses and lengths. They can be used for nearly all types of piercings. You look at the size of the piercing that you are normally wearing and search for a retainer with the same size.
