All information about the cartilage piercing

Cartilage earrings are one of the most popular piercing types. The ear can be pierced in many different ways. Just take a look at these ten popular ear piercings. Still, the tragus and the helix piercing are the most popular of all. That’s why Piercing Mania gives you the most important qualities of these two body jewelry types.

Tragus piercing

The tragus piercing is one of the most popular ear piercings there is. It pierces the small piece of cartilage that lies directly before the ear canal. Especially after 2005 the popularity of the tragus piercing started to rise fast. One of the possible causes was the fact that Scarlett Johansen was spotted with one, around the same time, just before it started to increase in popularity.

A benefit of the tragus in comparison to other ear piercings is that it’s slightly less painful to get one. This because the tragus contains relatively few nerve endings.

You can wear different types of cartilage piercings in the tragus. The most obvious one is the tragus piercing which is a small barbell of 1.2 mm thick and 6 mm long. This barbell can be worn in almost any place in the ear. Unless the piercing is enriched with a pendant or an extravagant design which might restrict its possibilities.

Besides small straight barbells, you could also wear ball closure rings and/or circular barbells as a tragus piercing. It is important to have a sufficient size which allows the ring some movement.

Finally, you could also wear labret piercings as an ear piercing. They are often considered the be very comfortable and very easy to place and remove.

The cartilage piercing

The helix piercing, also often referred to as the cartilage piercing, is the other popular ear piercing. Located on the edge of the ear the helix piercing is often set multiple times which quickly gives the impression of an ear full of piercings.

It’s nearly always possible to wear piercings in your helix that are suitable for your tragus, and more. There are special cartilage piercings meant as a helix piercing that focus on the edge of the ear concerning design. Which also means that they often can’t be worn somewhere else.

Just like the tragus, the helix piercing is a perfect place to wear ball closure rings or circular barbells. If the helix is set three times, three rings above each other, it will look very organized and in sync and simultaneously create the look of a fully pierced ear.

Combining cartilage piercings

The helix has a few more possibilities than the tragus concerning body jewelry. But, there are ways to combine the helix and the tragus piercing. These ‘tragus to helix chains’ consists of two piercings. One that goes in the tragus, the other in the helix piercing, both connected with an elegant chain creates a stunning look.
