Waxing routine and schedule

Once you experience the benefits of regular, strategically scheduled waxing – you’ll never go back! So, an important question is – how to choose the right schedule, and how often should you get waxed?

Some people will just walk into salon or make a waxing appointment when they feel their hair is a little overgrown, which stretches from 3 to 8 weeks depending on their lifestyle. However, there’s a lot to be said for sticking with a regular schedule, that can be once a month, or every 3 – 8 weeks depending on a number of different factors. Part of this downtime is waiting for approximately half a centimetre of regrowth (length of a grain of rice) before it can successfully be removed.

Between waxes make sure you’re moisturising twice a day, hairs that are soft and supple come out easier, which causes less pain. Dry, brittle hairs are also prone to snapping. Moisturising and exfoliating the skin regularly is important, as long as it’s not on the day of your appointment.

When you first get waxed, you could see hair or feel stubble in as little as just a couple of days. This doesn’t mean that your Beauty Therapist did a poor job, so don’t freak out and run to another salon! This is a result of the Shaving Effect – this happens for first time waxers, if you’ve been shaving, if you’ve been using an epilator or depilatory creams, or if you’ve waited too long between waxing appointments.

If you’re worried about pain, the level of discomfort will diminish over time with frequent waxing as this will reduce the strength of the hair follicle, hair that is regularly waxed grows back thinner and sparser over time due to the hair follicle damage.

Consistency is key. Stick to a regular schedule to get the best results possible, and smooth skin for longer periods of time.
