Body jewelry comes in all shapes and sizes and generally follow the rule that they are named after wherever they sit on the body, however that doesn’t always mean that the piercing Is only suitable for that spot! Tragus and helix jewellery are one of the examples.
Can you use a labret as a tragus or cartilage piercing?
It is common to wear a labret also as a tragus piercing or cartilage piercing; just like a labret these piercings are 8mm long. Because this area can become inflamed easily and cause irritation some people find labret piercings to be more comfortable to wear, otherwise you run the risk of the ball of the piercing rubbing against your ear.
It goes without saying that a tragus piercing should sit in the position of the ear canal but with a cartilage piercing either direction is possible.
Finally, even though it’s not true for all, of some piercings the balls can be swapped. However, it depends on the screw thread and thickness of the bar. So even if you do prefer wearing the labret, but prefer the design of your old tragus piercing you can still have the best of both worlds and swap them!
Keep in mind that switching between piercings constantly, especially wearing it in a place it’s not originally intended for, can sometimes need some common sense!
