Ear Stretchers, also known as tapers, are often used in combination with plugs and tunnels. Sensible, because tapers are used to stretch the ears. They come thus in incredibly many different sizes. How do you know which size you have to have, and when?
Tapers for stretching
Some people just use their tapers to stretch. They don’t or rarely wear them as jewellery but only as a tool to widen their ears further. For these people there’s a perfect solution, namely stretch sets. They contain multiple tapers in ascending sizes, so that you have all tapers at home directly, nicely convenient and useful.
Tapers for stretching and as jewellery
There are also more than enough people that use a taper for stretching but also see it as jewellery and like to exchange it with their tunnels and plugs. Logically there has to be bought a new taper for every new size. The size of a taper is always measured at its thickest point. You thus choose a taper that lies one size higher than your earlobe already is.
Haven’t you begun with stretching at all yet? Then begin with 1.2 or 1.6 mm. This depends on your ear ring. This is usually shot with 0.8, 1.0 or 1.2 mm. Take care that your ear lobe is healed before you begin with stretching.
Tapers as jewellery
Then at the end there are people that wear tapers purely and only as jewellery. Because they don’t use tapers to stretch, the can also choose other types of tapers than just the straight taper. They look to which size their ear is already stretched (and healed) and pick a size that is the same.
All kinds of tapers, except stirrup hangers, are measured at their thickest point.
